Here's a small simple graphic I drew on Photoshop of Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty. I wanted to go for more of a bold look with a dark outline and more subtle inner line art. I would have gone a little more crazy with creating highlights and shadows, but as I added onto the piece, I found softer shading took away from the clean lines I worked to create, so I decided to abide by the "less is more" rule, and stop my work at flat colours with darker outlines. I like the smoothness I was able to achieve on a digital medium because I always find myself struggling with that. The way I go about drawing is almost always building up messy sketching to create value. Attempting a simple yet eye catching graphic was something I found quite difficult, especially using a program I'm not yet super comfortable with. In the way I characterize humans and their features, I can't help but see bits of my love for drawing animals literally all the time. My pointed ears, sharp incisors, fur-like hair, and snout-like noses are probably things I should gear myself toward improving when it comes to human anatomy and developing a pleasing art style. I wish I had used a bit of a softer colour on his drool and stained teeth because the mouth ended up standing out more than I wanted it too. The symmetry of his face is also kinda wacky because for some reason I decided to draw him at a leaning angle in an attempt to create some sort of dynamic. It is however one of the only digital pieces I have taken time to sketch, line, and then colour. I used slight variations of colours I took from a reference photo using the eyedropper tool, and I used a size 6 hard opaque brush for most of it, and used the eraser to make the lines fade in and out at the ends. At the time of writing this description I'm hoping to draw a little Morty to put on this page as well, but knowing me, who can guess if that will ever come into fruition. Photoshop is a fun program to draw on, and I really enjoyed creating this piece. I feel as though it would make a nice sticker or T-shirt decal due to its simplicity.
